Which ones are the strongest processors implemnted on the notebooks today? I need to purchase a notebook strongly for CAD/GIS use and i notice that at best you get core 2 duo 2.13-2.40 Ghz. Can\t you do any better without going overboard?
Also is it worth getting a laptop with 4G DDR-3 memory if processor is limited to 2.4g?

some of the clevo/sager notebooks use desktop processors which can go up to a 3.0ghz quad, but if you're looking for a smaller notebook you can go up to a 3.06ghz core 2 duo on the sager np5797 or a 2.93ghz on the 15.4" np8662

If processing power is your main concern and you don't have mega bucks then you could have a look at the Asus C90P. Uses desktop processors and its only a 15.4 laptop. Even Q9650 will fit @ 3ghz. With a high end 3 ghz core 2 duo it goes for around 1000-1200 bucks and includes 4gb ram.

The fastest specific notebook processors are the dual core 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Extreme, and the fastest notebook quad core is the 2.53 Ghz Intel Core 2 Extreme.
As mentioned above, some notebooks have desktop processors as well, up to 3.2 Ghz dual and 3 Ghz quad (or more?) -
3.33ghz duo and 3.0ghz quad are the biggest I've seen on any laptop. I believe they're both desktop processors though.

Is it worth it, gunning for laptops with such processing power?
As i said i'm mainly interested in running business applications. If laptops cant get the job done, then maybe i should look for a desktop solution so that i wont waste my money and not get what i initially wanted. -
What is your budget? Do you need portability? Do you care about battery life? For the same amount, desktops will easily be much more powerful (plus coupled w/ after market cooling, OCing can further help). But if you need to do work on the road or move around a lot, then you will have to sacrifice power for that portability. Powerful notebooks can do the job, but it will cost more.

My Budget is around 1000-1250 EUR. I care about portability in the sense that i need to work in my office as well, but that's it, i only need to work in my house and my office. I dont need to work on the road or elsewhere, my work concentrated on these two areas.
So what o you reckon, should i go for a much powerful desktop on the aforemoentioned price range? -

In that case a desktop replacement laptop would be fine as you get little battery but can move it around very easily.

Any suggestions for a good desktop replacement laptop?

strongest mobile cpu is the qx9300 its a 2.53ghz quad core.
it overclocks rather well somebody had it going 4ghz but I imagine 3.4 or so is the norm.
I think I will get one down the road, I have a q9000 right now the 2.0ghz quad and mine overclocks to 2.75ghz+ but my ram is holding me back right now. -
Most of the desktop processors have a close cousin for notebooks, so you can expect dual cores, quad cores and the like to be available for notebooks.
