I was wondering what would be needed to upgrade my CPU in my Dell. I've read I would need a new motherboard in order to get an Intel i7, but I don't want to go that high. So what would I need to do in order to get an i3 or i5?

What is in it now? An i-anything will need the same socket, so if that's the reason, you're limited to a Core2.

There is no cheap way to get an i7 CPU if your notebook supports C2D. Why do you even want to upgrade your CPU?
-
Yeah, if you have a Core 2, your beat. Youll have to get a new notebook.
Although i dont think its really nessesary lol. the i series isnt THAT much better -
no u cannot use i5,i7 CPU's in XPS1640... only if u have XPS1645... also Core 2 Duo is max for u... if u want better processor , get a new laptop.
