First post - just excited to have got this done :D

I just installed Crucial 240GB m-sata drive in my DV6 7145 and got it working in a dual boot system with the existing W7HP and the newly installed W7ultimate

Without the small mistakes, this is what should work

    1) Install SSD as per HP service guide (tricky is getting the Keyboard to "pop", and then getting the ZIF connector for the keyboard back-lighting back in the socket)

    2) Reboot with fingers crossed
    3) Find SSD using Hard-drive manager in system/administration - I formatted it as a Boot sector drive which is wrong as my Notebook is EFI/UEFI. - shut down remove battery
    4) Remove normal HDD otherwise you have to try to find a BIOS option which boots from the unknown drive
    5) replace back panel and battery
    6) insert W7 Disc
    7) at the point where you can select the drive to install, press shift F10 to get a prompt and use DISKPART to clean the disk see link (maybe not needed if the disk is found and you don't format it)

    DiskPart Command-Line Options
    8) exit DISKPART and select the SSD
    9) Install windows7
    10) reboot - W7 should start, but you have no drivers
    11 Shut down reinstall HDD
12 reboot(still from SSD) install drivers from HDD at this point you may or may not have the Boot-manager at start up - I did not
13 Shut down and reboot, entering the BIOS boot options to force a boot from HDD to check if all is still well
14 Shut down reboot and force boot from W7 CD use extended options in the install menu to repair the Boot-manager
15 Shut down and reboot and you should get the choice of which OS to boot from.
16 Wait for windows update to finish then install your software
