Eyeing this deal, not sure whether that display might become a hindrance based on what I'm hearing.

Depends on your preference. I think Quad HD is too much for a 13.3" laptop, but honestly its all personal preference. Plus is the Quad HD the only reason you are thinking about buying that laptop, or do you need the other specs too?

Thin and light, awesome display quality for both the 1080p and the quad HD, decent (albeit not perfect, but still better than most pcs out there) touchpad, aesthetics, and battery life. Trouble with this quad HD display is it kills the battery life!

A few reviews have agreed with you in saying that many icons just don't scale properly. Many show up just fine and others come up looking too tiny or blurry. Would be nice if BHPhoto would offer the 1080p version for less.

The display resolution/scaling and power issues are not to be ignored. Neither is the reported fuzzy text on the QHD screen (mostly on white backgrounds).

But the bigger issues for me is that this is a Dell. It is an XPS and it costs well north of a grand for a mere 256GB SSD and a dual core 'u' i7 and I assume non upgradeable 8GB RAM.

Yes, the small chassis size (11") of the notebook with a 13" screen is attractive, but there are better notebooks around (and they include a LAN port too, for example...) - even if they are not touch (useless, to me...) and ultra books (I've come to see this term mean something closer to ultra useless - in any recent incarnation...).

4 hour effective battery life is what is being reported for these models too.

Overall, this is not a must buy today - unless you have no system to use at all.
