Your performance numbers on the newest Super Talent drives are significantly higher than anyone else's. Not that that's bad, but it does make someone go hmmmm...

I'd like to see a comparison between the Samsung SATA II and a SuperTalent.

Other results of the same drive. They're getting read speeds in the 80s, and write speeds in the mid 30s.

i'd say thats because other results of the same drive are run on sata-I speeds, not sata-II b/c not all computers support it... could b wrong tho.

edit: or they need to have something enabled, which their comp doesn't support. i remember for my mtron i was only getting 60-70ish speeds

Theres a bit of discrepency in the readings if I may bring it up. The transfer rate is not exceeded by 21.4MB/s as you are refering to the maximum, or peak, transfer rate reached for read.

You need to go by the average which is lower and not the maximum. Using this program, even your true average is incorrect because of the false positive being read. If you check my HDTune, you will see my maximum is a whopping 190MB/s which would be record breaking.

These tests are similar to a Samsung I worked with. I am starting to believe it has to do with newer controller technology or newer NAND being used as there are two specific tests which always seem to have very "jumpy" scores. These tests deal specifically with the graphed results from HDTune and HDTach. I have brought this to the attention of manufacturers but there isn't an answer as to why this is occuring as of yet.

If you want truly accurate readings, utilize ATTO, PCMark05 or CrystalMark and you will find they fall in line. I have attached a HDTune result that shows exactly the same with these two programs.

    Nice post!

Les, is there a reason why the ssd spikes so much between 100mb/sec and 190mb/sec. I thought SSD's should have the same continuous write / read speeds.

Its a big jump, I guess its onboard hardware control on the ssd drive

I think this relates directly to the benchmark programs as it interacts with either newer controllers of newer NAND as there is consistency in this area. I have used others, specifically ATTO, CrystalMark and PcMark05 which have all the right score and match each other. More importantly, they fall in line with manufacturers posted expectations.

well when manufactures list the rated speed. they are claiming the max read out. aka which is why i said 21. but yes avg is what really matters. but never the less, 130mb is still over what it was rated for max output. i was running off sata 2. other than that i dont know why other scored lower. les, would you know why mine scored differently than others?
