    howdy folks :)

    Question is simple:
I have a Dell latitude D630 notebook. Here are the specs:
    T7300 processor
    80 gb HDD
    cd/dvd read/write
    2.5 gb RAM
    Windows vista home basic
    Sigmatel Highdef audio

I want to be able to use a 5.1 surround sound speaker set. I am well aware the laptop can't do that currently :(

So what must I do to be able to enjoy the wonderful sounds of country music? (jk :p )
More seriously, what must i do to fully use my 5.1 set.

    thx

Mine only has one. I wish it had better sound output, not only through speakers but also the crappy sound chip.

You may want to look at an express card sound card.

So, I guess no 5.1 for you. I know that for using 5.1 speakers you need to have 3 audio ports.
vespoli, yeah, for instance the new Creative is a good card and way better than what's integrated. The only downside is that it's external.

    thx vespoli.

and no only one audio port and one mic.

How much do these external cards cost and do they have a certain life span?

    thx again
