    Swap Dell E1505 CDRom to HDD?

    Hey all. just wondering if I can take the optical drive out and use the slot to add another HDD?

    btw, is the optical drive SATA or IDE? anyone know?

    I don't think the inspirons have a hot swappable cd-rom bay.

    pretty sure it doesnt... but it is theoretically possible to use that IDE/SATA bay for a HDD...no?

    No because a hdd will not fit in there...

    Yes, you can remove the cd-rom drive, and yes a harddrive would fit in the optical bay. You would probably have to buily a hardrive caddy for it and buy an internal ata to SATA or ATA adaptor so that you could run a secondary harddrive.

    I know on other dell chassis, like my dell 8500, you could put a secondary harddrive in. You should probably buy one of those secondary harddrive caddies, and mod it so that it will fit in your E1505.

    I have an E1505, and never thought of doing this.

    Like K-TRON said, you could probably make it work by building something that would hold your HDD in that space.

    Although it would be easier just to use an external.
