    Hello,
    I have a 2009 HP dv6-1230us laptop. It came with a standard Intel Core 2 Duo cpu and motherboard. It's good for my general school and browsing use, but for games, the integrated Intel graphics leaves much to be desired. Since, I am still in school and low on cash, I was looking for cheap solution for now. I noticed that HP made other laptops in the dv6-1000 series that had AMD processors (integrated Radeon graphics are much better than Intel's). I looked up some on ebay, and the shape and location of the ports looks exactly the same between the dv6-1000 Intel and AMD boards. I was wondering if I could just buy an AMD board and swap my Intel one with that?

    Thanks.

    Find the service manual for your laptop model series, then look for chassis part numbers. If there is only one, then there is little hope.

    In real life all the insides could be reversed, you might need to replace much more than just the motherboard. It is probably cheaper to buy another laptop and sell the old one, price difference is probably much less than just the upgrade would be.

    Are the cooling solutions between the two versions of notebooks identical? Would the graphics chipset on that old a computer (undoubtedly it was not a high end GPU even in 2009) even be enough for what you want to do?

    This ^^^

    It could be a major transplant with quite a few more issues.

    You have a link to the MB you are looking at buying?

    You can also compare with a photo of the existing Intel MB and see if the placement of the components are the same and if the cooling is cross-compatible.

    From a Google Search, this is what i get;

    Intel
