Hey everyone.
I have an older Compaq Evo 600 (I believe that's the correct model number). It's about 3-4 years old I'm guessing. Anyway...my girlfriend has a 3 year old Dell Inspiron 8600 that is falling apart. It has a centrino processor, and some other decent hardware.
I was wondering if it was possible to swap some of the better hardware from her Dell into the Compaq (which isn't falling apart!).
I know I can check the RAM for compatability, but I'm clueless as far as harddrive and processor, etc go.
Thanks!

The processor won't work since it's a whole new generation the Pentium M and Pentium III architecture(similiar but different sockets). The HD will work fine since its both IDE.

Ah bummer, although I figured as much. I checked and I'm fairly sure the RAM are different sockets too.
Her computer is falling apart (screen's going out, keys falling off keypad, bad overheating), and I hate to have this perfectly solid, yet very slow computer (the Compaq) go to waste.
Think it would be worth it to see if I could pickup a used/new, faster processor and more RAM for cheap to swap into the Compaq? Any other suggestions? She doesn't have the money for a new laptop... -

Yeah, I know it's old. Thought it might not be worth the money, and I guess that's what the consensus is.
Thanks for the help! -
PIII uses SDRAM while Inspiron 8600 uses DDRAM. You cant swap them. The part that is useable is HD and I dont think optical drive would be suitable as well.
Swap components from Compaq to Dell??
