Heya, I recently suffered the much lamented power socket problem with my 2100 series Presario. I was running XP Pro, and have aquired a new compaq 2100. The new comp only has a 40gb drive,(Old one had a 60gb drive.) is running XP Home, but has a better processor. (Old one was an AMD XP2000, new one is an AMD XP2800)
Now, my old hard drive has all kinds of goodies and customizations I'd like to keep. As well as being bigger. Is it possible to just swap the two without reformating the drive?

Thanks, I took your advice and it seems to be working! It found a few new devices, but seems to have gone through normal routine steps to update. I'm a very, very happy man. Thanks much!

since they are identical laptops, and probably with identical motherboards you will most probably get away without a format. No harm in just trying it out, nothing will happen to neither the drive nor the computer if you try it.
