    Swapping Processor...reinstall needed?

    i am going to swap my P8700 with Q9000....
    is there any windows reinstall needed? or the OS can detect the CPU without making any software changes?

    should work without a problem. but do a backup before switching. just in case.

    Nope, there is no need to reinstall the OS when swapping out processors. The OS will automatically detect the new processor without any problems. You can verify this (if using Windows) by right-clicking on My Computer and choosing Properties.

    However, you may want to see if your motherboards' chipset offers any BIOS updates. Some motherboards/chipsets have problems addressing select processors and thus a BIOS fix is needed. In most cases, these updates are very minor, but it wouldn't hurt to check nevertheless to ensure full functionality.

    Since your OS is guaranteed to have been running on a multiprocessor hardware abstraction layer, your upgrade will work.
