Swapping connectors on power bricks? - The Small brick hunt

About a month ago I bought a 230w brick for the P775 since my systems not configured for a 330w draw which turned out to be Delta from the seller instead of Chicony model I had explicitly ordered as they are smaller. It was a compatible brick however so I sucked it up but two weeks in it died...it turns on but shuts off moment it has been plugged into laptop, woo. As I made a claim about the false advertisement of selling one thing and shipping another and they (paypal) wanted me to ship it back at my own expense (cost of the brick...) for a refund Im basically out the money as I denied to do so as they basically never sent me what I purchased nor am I breaking even so paypal closed the claim and says i cannot make a second. GG Scammers..

I decided to open it up today and see what was going on and was greeted to stripped screws so I knew I was ef'd at that point.


The DIN side is just....disgusting so I am on the hunt for another cheap way to get a 230 Din brick...I do have a barrel version from the P670RP6 so maybe a MiniDIN to barrel adapter (though I cannot tell if the pitch is correct on the din side of things) would work but the other idea is taking the HP 230W Slim adapter and swapping the cables..can it be done? Asides from that or paying the $130 for one from Pro-Star all I can think of is also maybe looking for someone who has the din version but needs barrel version which seems...unlikely.

The mission? acquire a smaller brick at all costs.

 

Thats a charger that went to china to be recycled, and well, it was recycled and sold..

You can swap cables, I wouldn't use that adapter, fire might happen.

 

At-least they left everything bare so it wont have to be re-stripped maybe but yeah between their shenanigans and what I suspect is an attempted short bypass at IC location with that oddly knocked off looking SMD it wont be put back into service The cables nice though...its yellow, still confused on who the heck used banana colored din connector for their laptop but it gives it some personality lol at least nobody wants the HP variant of this thing on fleabay either so that can be an experiment!

 

I don't know what there prices are, but can you check with Xotic, RJTech, lpc-digital for the cost of a replacement? (I'd suggest ava-direct, but IIRC, you prolly would like to avoid them)

 

Never buy the China special power supplies. That's more than just a fire waiting to happen. There was a horror story of someone buying a "Delta" 330W PSU which turned out to be el cheapo friday afternoon made specials transplanted into a Delta chassis.

(Insert Star Trek II Wrath of Khan reference here. Something you can transplant!. You know what she'll say).

I got my 330W PSU From Xotic PC, however I do not know if they sell PSU's to non customers.
