I have a Dell 640m and a Sony SZ. The 640m has a T7200 CPU while the SZ has a T5600. I was wondering how easy it would be for me to swap the two?

If you know how to dismantle the two notebooks, and feel comfortable about it, then it is possible to do. However, you will void the warrnaty for both notebooks. Also, the only real difference you will see in the two processor, is when running processor dependant tasks, such as video editing for encoding. You won't notice any speed difference in tasks like word processing or surfing the Internet.

As easy as take one out, put the other in. No core 2 duos are soldered, AFAIK.. If you've experience with opening your notebook and stuff, then it'll be a piece of cake. If you have compatibility issues in mind, then rest assured, there'd be none.
You'll have to reinstall whatever OS you have, though.

Pray tell, why would you have to reinstall the OS?

    Don't bother switching the processors.

Even in processor dependant apps the performance increase is not worth the hassle and warranty voiding. The biggest differance is that the t7200 has a bigger cache, which does in fact bump performance, but not enough.
