    Switching RAM Sticks

    Quick Question is it safe to switch Ram sticks from another laptop just to test as I have black screen of death on start up on my Compaq CQ62 fan is running and flashing caps lock light. Failed using external monitor reseated hard drive and ram as well as draining all the power As per standard trouble shooting. Original ram stick is 2gb 1Rx8 PC3 10600s. Spare: 2gb 2Rx8 PC3 8500s

    It is safe, even if only to be certain that its the RAM that is giving you trouble. CQ series is famous for early mobo failure. If switching RAM also fail I think its time for a replacement.

    Cheers thanks I will try it as it's the last troubleshooting I can think of and if it doesn't work I think I will be looking to up grade she is getting a little old
