Long story short: My DVD-RW/CD-RW went out on me a couple days ago. So I bought a new one from newegg. How am i supposed to swap it? I have the MSI EX625.

Take out one or two screws in the underside of the laptop.

    Pull out the drive.
There might be an frame around the drive, transfer this to the new one.

Pry the faceplace carefully from both drives and put the old one on the new drive.

Slide in drive and replace screws.
    It ain't rocket science :p

It doesn't seem that simple. I thought it would be that easy, but it isn't. There are two screws inside the laptop, keeping the optical drive in. I can't seem to access it without removing the ENTIRE backplate.

Weird construction if this was so!

    I found a picture here.

Possibly the screw at the audio jacks?
Hard to see, but the drive seems to be there too.

You would think... Anyways I took the three screws out (black) hoping I could just pull out the CD\DVD drive, not so. Yes, that would be the drive (red). I was hoping that there was a way I could just swap trays, but I doubt that is possible.

Any chance the drive is secured in place from the top?
Thinking aloud here... they would be under the keyboard then.

Might be... I'll take my laptop apart again once I get my replacement.
