I have a CR-48 but the single core really holds it back.

It was a free laptop so I'd be willing to spend to upgrade it but the motherboard/ cpu are embedded so I have to replace both.

Is it possible to buy a mobo that'll fit + an n550/570? If not, could I just buy
Newegg.com - Acer Aspire One AOD255E-1643 Diamond Black Intel Atom N570(1.66GHz) 10.1" WSVGA 1GB Memory 250GB HDD Netbook

And switch the parts minus the hard drive?

edit: I'd really much prefer to buy the mobo+n550/570. Can anyone point me to where I could?

I highly doubt that the case would be compatible with the motherboard. Screw holes, etc.

Ah, darn. I like the case of the CR-48 so much but the specs are weak.

It is meant only for internet surfing, correct? You shouldn't need to upgrade the CPU. You use your Vaio E for all intensive purposes.

The Chrome OS, if you are using it, is also picky in what hardware it supports.

I know that ChromeOS works on that particular laptop. It's been tested on quite a few of them actually.

The thing is, a single core atom isn't very good for watching any shows on Hulu. It's really barely watchable (20fps). I realize it's mostly software constraints but a dual core would make a pretty big difference. Especially for when java is added to the OS.

there is no way you can do anything. CPU is soldered to motherboard+ motherboards are not switchable. You might as well buy a different netbook if this isn't good enough for your uses.

The only time you can think of this is when notebooks of differnt spec are about.

EG: The 5935G and 5940G share the same case.

You could buy a 5940G motherboard, CPU and heatsink, slap it in the 5935G's case and be good to go.

Sometimes. I think that this is not one of those times. You get a single core laptop for free? Sounds like you get more than what you paid for.

I had replace my compaq V3000 with HP dv2500 motherboard.

Before swap, need to do your homework and look for another model with same I/O port position.
