I have about 25GB of work related files that I keep backed up in an external drive. I use ADCS and the syncing mode is 'Mirror', to mirror everything from my computer backup folder to my hard drive backup folder.

But a few months ago, the whole syncing process started taking forever. I sync everything about once or twice a week, so the new and changed files are not that many. And it's usually the deleting of the old files (in my external file) what takes by far the longest.

Another thing is that I keep both backup folders in a 'Backup' folder under C: and F: respectively. But I tried to use another application to mirror both files, and it seems that they both try to re-copy everything again instead of modifying just the changes. I used Genie Backup Manager and SyncToy and they both take forever.

I thought that my ext hard drive was malfunctioning but everything seems to be working fine. I manually copied my Backup folder and added a second backup in a different folder. I also keep my music files in that same ext drive without any problem.

Anybody knows what could be wrong? My ext drive is 500gb and I still have over 100gb available.

I don't know how to check if the USB is set to 1.1 or 2.0 either. But copying from my PC to the external drive takes no time.

sentence, do your other non-sync transfers take as long as the syncing processes. I'm asking because all other transfers in my computer don't take as long.

look in device manager, under your usb controllers for an enhanced one.
