The higher the processor goes the more expensive for me it gets, but I want my future laptop to last me into a Vista upgrade (if that is really necessary...). Should I go ahead and spend the money upfront, should I buy a core duo and wait for next's yrs intel processor?

Currently I have my eyes on a Toshiba M110-ST116. Hp 2000t was recommended but I get more software with the Toshiba if not for a little more money. Any suggestions?

Btw, I would be using for school stuff, and playing City of Heroes, possibly any new games in the future that catch my eye.

I would say go for the T5500--it gives you the 64-bit ability that is more future proof than the t2250, while being cheaper than the t7200. You don't need the t7200 for school stuff and moderate gaming. Bear in mind that while you can upgrade from CD to C2D, you cannot upgrade from either CD or C2D to the new intel platform-"santa rosa". They are not compatible. What price differences are you looking at?

I think about $150. I was looking at a Toshiba M110, but others have recommended the HP dv2000 over it... but the dv2000 only has a 7200 processor and I'm not sure if that is decent enough for Vista since HP and Toshiba offere free vista upgrades. I may have to go up to $1500 american and get a Asus w7j or similar to really get something. If I wait till march, i'll prob want to end up waiting until sept or dec again for sales or better products, oo the agony of waiting.

The T7200 can run Vista with no problems. You should go for the HP dv2000t.

Whoops...I meant Nvidia 7200...no the T7200 from intel. Isn't that 7200 kinda weak?

Yeah, I was wondering about your reference to the "7200 processor". The Go 7200 card is weak, but it should run Vista ok, since Intel's GMA950 is also supposed to be Vista capable.

But if you plan to game, go for a Go 7600 or higher.

It is OK, it is a higher end IGP, but the fact that it is an IGP makes it low end. Look for an X700 or an X1600 or a 7600 if you want to game.

But remember, none of these cards will be DX10 compatable, so you will have to use DX9.

To add to this, there are not going to be any notebook DX10 graphics cards out for some time as far as I can see, at least until some mid-ranged cards appear on the market with lesser power requirements.

Between the T2250, T5500, and T7200, I would go for the T5500, although there's no way you can go wrong with the T2250 if you want to save cash.

Thanks all for the posts. So far the only game I really play is City of Heroes which came out 2003. Jade Empire for pc is looking nice, but generally I don't play any more recent games. I may give call of duty a try but i'm not the most avid gamer, just dont want to shell 1000's of dollars to stay current ever year or two.

I am glad you dug this up as most of the info has changed since then, Santa Rosa came out, DX10 is here. It is OK to start your own thread in the future. Why do you want to upgrade your card? And do you have PCMCIA or Express card slot?
