I ordered an Inspiron 6400 a couple days ago (see sig) which had a t2250. So today Dell had started a new sale and after cancelling this order, I ordered the same notebook but with a t5600 for only $60 CDN more. I figured it was worth it since it has slightly higher clock speed, faster fsb and 64bit capability.
So now I'm wondering how much faster the t5600 will be than the t2250? Does anyone have any benchmarks for the t5600 or something like that? (I will be running Vista Home Premium if that makes any difference.) Thanks.

The T5600 will perform faster, but only in processor intensive applications. For exampple, if your main tasks are to word process and surf the Internet, then you won't notice a speed difference. However, in applications like encoding and video editing, which require processor power, the T5600 will perform faster. Since it has a 667 Mhz FSB, and a higher clockspeed, it will perform a good bit faster aswell.
The other thing you gain with the T5600 is 64-bit, which at the moment is practically useless, but it will become something that you might want when 64-bit programs are released onto the consumer market. You made the correct decision in upgrading to the T5600, particularly since it was only $60 CAD. Congratulations on the new notebook. -
T5600 is based on a newer core and will give you more juice per clock than a T2250. Maybe you won't notice a big improvement in real life but it's definitively a better processor. Check this link for a comparison between both cores, it will give you a good picture of what you are gaining with the T5600. The review is based on equal clock CD and C2D CPUs so for your case it should be even better.

For an indication of the speed difference, I suggest that you look at this thread. The T5600 is approximately 20% to 25% faster as a result of the higher clock speed and internal improvements. So, if you have something which would take 5 minutes on the T2250, it would take about 4 minutes on the T5600. However, the performance difference may not be so obvious under light usage.

Thanks everyone. So I guess I will notice the difference since I'm planning to do a fair bit of video editing (transferring all my VHS tapes) in addition to some light gaming and regular schoolwork.
