    Hi!

I'm looking at getting the ASUS F3Ja with the following specs:

    Intel Core Duo T2300E
    2GB RAM
    100GB HD 5400RPM
    Radeon x1600 256MB
    TFT WXGA

    Total: 1459€

Now to the question: Is T2300E fast enough or should I upgrade it to T2400? Or can I overclock T2300E to match T2400 (or even T2500)?

Or should I wait for the Core 2 Duo laptops?

Please feel free to comment on any other upgrades.

well I have the t2300 (not t2300E) and it is more then enough for any gaming youll do. But if Im correct the t2300e is the low voltage cpu and has a lower fsb 533 vs. 667. If I am then go for a t2300 or t2400. If I am wrong and it does have the 667 fsb then it will be fine.

OCing a notebook isnt a good idea in my book. I personally would stay away from that, and just use the standard clocks.

Thanks for the quick reply :)

As far as I know the only difference between T2300 and T2300E is that T2300E doesn't have Intel Virtualization Technology. I guess I'm going for T2300E then.

Yeah go as fast as you can afford, but the t2300 is no slouch. You can always upgrade down the road if its not enough.

I definitely wouldn't upgrade a T2300E to a T2400 at the moment. Too expensive for not enough gain. It'd be much better to save that money and upgrade to a Merom T5600 or T7200 a little bit later.

Upgrading from the T2300E to a T2400 will yeild no noticeable improvement in performance. You will NEVER notice the difference.

Might as well wait for the Core 2 Duo models, since they're already out and Asus has already mentioned upgrading their entire product line to use it. Intel's price parity between the Core Duos and Core 2 Duos means you could be getting 10-15% more performance at little to no extra cost.

If you need the notebook urgently, however, then you probably won't regret buying it now. The T2300E, as mentioned by earlier posters, is no slouch, and with the X1600 taking pretty much all graphical load off the CPU, it'll probably outrun many T2400 systems which use integrated graphics.

I think the T2400 is worth the extra $20-30 0r so IMO.
