Am I correct in saying that the Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2330 is a 478 pin Socket P processor ?
Thanks.
-
Yeah that should be correct seen those Cpus being offered in DEll and Zepto CPus which are based on SR platform so you might even be able to push it up to Penryn processors. However check your manual as some manufacturers tend to lock upgradeability options
-
Thanks thought it might be, its in an Inspiron 1520, I'm guessing I can use any of the Socket P C2D's ?
-
Yeah. You might (MIGHT) be able to use a Penryn, if the bios allows it. Since the 1520 has been replaced by the 1525, it might very well not be upgradable or get a bios update allowing penryns.
-
Isn't the T2330 considered as Yonah/Napa platform? In that case, no Penryns will not work and it would be socket M not Socket P.
-
However, you can upgrade to the Merom core (Core 2 Duo) under the T5600, T7000, T7200, T7400, T7600 processors which are rated at 667 FSB provided that you have a BIOS update available.
Intel Processor Finder See here All 667mhz applies to you, 800 mhz will not work and a different socket altogether. -
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_M
I think it'll work with the 667MHz FSB C2D's, but the article suggests that the 800MHz C2D's are Socket P. -
It's a socket P. It's Santa Rosa. It's Merom. It's an Inspiron 1520.
-
I thought 800Mhz FSB was required to be Santa Rosa? Isn't T2330 533Mhz FSB? But yes socket P. I think it is being missed that Santa Rosa platform is a mixture of certain components one of them being a socket "P" CPU, but having a socket "P" does necessarily mean you have Santa Rosa.
-
If it has a Centrino label, It's santa rosa (as santa rosa is the fourth gen Centrino platform). If it doesn't, It's not santa rosa.
-
Ok thanks all, does this mean I can still use any of the Socket P C2D CPU's even tho it may or may not be 800Mhz FSB (Santa Rosa).
Si -
Santa Rosa, requires Core 2 Duo socket P 800Mhz FSB 965 chipset the only thing T2330 has is socket "P", not Core 2 Duo or 800Mhz FSB or 965 chipset ergo not Santa Rosa or Centrino?
I would guess that because T2330 does not have 965 chipset it can not be upgraded to any 800Mhz FSB socket P CPU, Bios flash or not as it's chipset does not support that clock. I believe it has a 945 chipset, those support both 533Mhz and 667Mhz, can you upgrade to a Core 2 667Mhz? I don't know someone else could answer better. I have doubts, I suspect you are stuck with socket P CPU's that have 533Mhz FSB's. As said I don't know for certain about 533/667MHZ. -
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Seeing as the 1520 can be configured with a T7500, I see no reason why the the 800MHz FSB processors won't work. It's not like they're going to change out the mobo for different configurations of 1520.

I would like someone who knows more to inform as this has peaked my curiosity, but information is not complete. The only thing more amazing than all the information on the Internet is all the incomplete and inaccurate info, makes it hard to research.
Lithus , any input? -
From what I can tell with the information provided by Sipha, his 1520 with the T2330 is indeed a Core Duo (Yonah processor with Napa Chipset). Running a software like CPU-Z would definately verify it as such. And for the record, a Santa Rosa based motherboard would have no way in running a Yonah Processor. -
Good points except Napa is not a chipset. I think I might know what you mean but as you say not Santa Rosa, now you say Napa! Those are what Intel likes to call "platforms", good buzz word? So what is up?

To answer the OP: Download and read the datasheet which you can get from Intel.
On page 29 you will read:
Whether the T2330 will work if you put it in a socket P most likely depends on BIOS support. The safest way to know if the BIOS supports a CPU is for the computer to have that CPU as a sales option.

Tell you what guys, why don't we ask the OP to download cpu-z and display his findings on here.
Google cpu-z and install. Running it will tell you what cpu, what socket, how much cache, FSB, pin type, all sorts. -
Napa (Centrino Gen 3) 2006 = Intel Platform/945 Chipset Socket M supporting 667mhz FSB + Yonah/Core Duo + Merom/Core 2 Cuo(667mhz Refresh)
Santa Rosa (Centrino Gen4) 2007 = Intel Platform/965 Chipset Socket P supporting 800FSB/TurboCache Robson Tech + Merom/Core 2 Duo (800mhz) + Penryn Core 2 Duo(800mhz Refresh)
Montevina (Centrino Gen5) 2008 = Intel Platform/Mobile45 Chipset Socket P Supporting 1066FSB/Robson 2 + Penryn/Core 2 Duo (1066mhz)
What I'm saying is that the original OP must have the Napa "platform", hence the T2330(confirmed Yonah) that came stock with his notebook. There is absolutely no way he would be able to upgrade to a Penryn processor unless he/she were to change the entire motherboard. -
I checked in CPU-Z and its DEFINATELY Merom and it DEFINATELY has a 965 chipset stated....
When I get back from work I'll post up a screenshot for you
1 thing I do remember is that CPU-Z calls it a GM965 but Everest calls it a PM965 chipset, dunno if this makes any difference ?
Thanks all. -
So no one can even check the intel website to see that the T2330 is Merom based? Or that the 965 chipset is up tp 800 MHz?
You can upgrade to a Socket P CPU. If you have integrated graphics, you have GM965, if you have dedicated you have PM965. -
It appears either Chipset can support a dedicated card PM965 or GM965 as they both have a PCI-Express x16 port, I presume if you plug 1 into the GM965 it just disables the Integrated GMA.
http://compare.intel.com/pcc/showchart.aspx?mmID=28117,28116&familyID=7&culture=en-US
It also appears they both support 800Mhz processors so either way it looks like I'm able to upgrade to a decent CPU -
On most GM965 (inlcuding yours), the x16 link has been disabled. So you can't upgrade.
-
But I have a 8400M GS installed ?!
What confuses me is that CPU-Z says its a GM965 and Everest shows it as a PM965 chipset lol!?
Anyway the good news is it looks like i can use most if not all Socket P based C2D's am I correct there ? -
-
Thanks all its looking good then
I will post up those pics tho later on just to confirm.. -
Celeron M is neither a Centrino duo or C2D but almost 90% of all celeron m laptops can be upgraded to CD or C2D
as for the t2330
http://www.intel.com/products/processor/pentium_dual-core/specs.htm
It is severely crippled C2D just as e2140 is to e6320
e2140 is NOT CONROE processor but it is based on CONROE architecture
conclusion
T2330 is NOT C2D but based on C2D architecture(65nm)
t2330 will not work on NAPA platform -
My bad! Sorry guys for the confusion. Just looked up the T2330 and you guys are correct, man are intel products increasingly more confusing than ever.
Anyway, my apologies for being to persistent on this subject and it's great that you can upgrade to Penryn based processors! -
Here's the CPU-Z shots i promised..
Note it shows my T2330 as a T5200 !?
-
Here's what everest says about the Chipset, in contrast to CPU-Z reports lol !
Which is correct ?
-

cpu-z is wrong. It thinks that because the cpu has a merom core that it's a core 2 duo. 1.6GHz would make it a T5200. It's not though, it's a Pentium Dual Core and the L2 cache proves that. For some reason cpu-z is rubish with Santa Rosa cpus.
Everest is right. You have Intel 965 chipset which means socket P. -
Excellent news, Thanks
T2330 Socket ?
