Hi, I have seen a few post about upgrading laptops processors, so I decided to upgrade mine, since I have Pentium Dual Core 1.6ghz:
Intel® Pentium® Processor T2330 (1M Cache, 1.60 GHz, 533 MHz FSB))
I wanted to upgrade it, I know it is socket P, 478 pins, 65nm and 533Mhz. I searched for a better one and I found a few, but I don't know if they are 100% compatible...
Here are they:
The first one is Core 2 Duo T7300
Intel® Core?2 Duo Processor T7300 (4M Cache, 2.00 GHz, 800 MHz FSB))
The second one is Core 2 Duo T5750
Intel® Core?2 Duo Processor T5750 (2M Cache, 2.00 GHz, 667 MHz FSB))
Oh!!!!! my motherboard is:
Motherboard
Manufacturer Intel Corporation
Model SANTA ROSA CRB (U2E1)
Version PSAF3U-0NR00V
Chipset Vendor Intel
Chipset Model GL960
Chipset Revision C0
Southbridge Vendor Intel
Southbridge Model 82801HBM (ICH8-ME)
Southbridge Revision B1
System Temperature 50 °C
BIOS
Brand Phoenix Technologies LTD
Version 2.50
Date 12/08/2008
I have already updated the latest BIOS version when I upgrade to 2GB of RAM...
By the way my laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5804:

Yes, both are compatible.

I advise purchasing a Penryn 45nm cpu such as a T8100-2.1, T8300-2.4, T9300-2.5, T9500-2.6. Some GL960 systems even allow the budget 45nm CPUs (no IDA, no SuperLFM mode, half the cache) to be used: T4200/T6400-2.0, T6600-2.2.

how can he choose processors rated at 667 or 800MHz FSB???? -
Regardless of whether they are compatible, I would say that it isn't worth your time or money upgrading your CPU.
The truth is that small incremental upgrades to your CPU within the same CPU family / architecture will not give you any noticeable performance benefit in applications or gaming. On top of that, you're talking about investing money in the obsolete Core 2 platform. I think you're wasting your time and money by upgrading your CPU.
A smarter way to spend money would be to buy a Solid State Disk (SSD). An SSD will give you immediate and noticeable real-world performance gains, even on older Core 2 generation laptops (see videos in my signature). And an SSD that you buy today will be transferrable into whatever laptop you decide to buy in the future, used in other systems, or resold to other people. So you're not buying obsolete hardware that will be thrown away whenever you replace your current laptop. -

If this is true I will have a better CPU for my mobile.
kent1146, I don't have the money to buy a SSD they are too expensive where I live and can't reach the cost to bring one from the US.
So is solved that will work? Should I upload a few photos I took to the motherboard and the processor socket??? -
niffcreature ex computer dyke
no need. Go grab a t8300 or something.
What kent said is totally not true. Literally, if there were some youtube videos you couldn't watch before, or if everything starts to stutter with a certain amount of apps or tabs open, this will probably fix it.
Tho if you don't have 4gb of RAM that will also probably be needed. -
another suggest for the T8x00 or higher also.. I also upgraded my T2410 to T8100 but it was on the PM965 chipset though. the 45nm runs cooler than the older 65nm chips which is an added bonus

Talking about a SSD, there are not cheap enough, the ones that cost $60 have 40GB of disk capacity I have a 120GB it won't be an upgrade to have less than the half of my actual capacity!!!
So, I will check with a technician, a friend of mine and I will tell you if the upgrade is possible, and functional!!!
Thanks again everyone for the help. -
I have both a T7300 and a T7500 for sell. PM me if you're interested. -
And how much the t7500 (same questions about the previous one)???
I understand that both (t7300 and t7500 are compatible with my socket p 478 pin) fits my laptop, right?
Thanks for the info. -
The only time I had an issue with the GL960 was on an HP laptop. I think you should be fine since you have a Toshiba. Both T7300 and the T7500 will work. The T7500 is faster than the T7300. That said, you'll not see the difference between these two if all you're using your laptop for is word processing and internet browsing.
For the price make me an offer -
A friend of mine manage to find a T7500, it will be delivered to me in 3 weeks :/, I know its a lot of time, the mailing service is too bad... anyway I will tell you if it will be a successful upgrade!!! -
let us know how it goes
-
I don't know if this helps, since you've already bought the cpu.
I just did this less than a week ago, going from a T2370 to a T7700 on a Toshiba.
Whole new computer. Only a 30% upgrade in speed, but everything runs so much better I wish I'd done it earlier. No way an SSD would have made such a big difference, and since I've got a 500Gb HD, no way I'd be able to choke myself down to less than 1/4 of that capacity.
Good luck, and find a guide to help tear down the thing. Things are awful tight inside, and having a visual guide is nearly essential so you don't end up breaking something and making the whole upgrade pointless.

I want to tell everyone, i is a perfect upgrade!!!! I got a much faster CPU and, as Schtoo says, an SSD wouldn't give the boost as I achieved.
The t7500 works perfectly on an chipset GL960!!!!
thanks to everyone who helped me!!!
T2330 upgrade to T7300 or T5750
