Hey guys. I have a Lenovo T400s which only has a displayport and VGA port.
I was thinking of this

I also ordered this but don't think based on reading forums displayport passes audio http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2
I know a lot of people use this
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10114&cs_id=1011407&p_id=4724&seq=1&format=2
with this
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...d=10218&cs_id=1021804&p_id=665&seq=1&format=2
But I wanted to maintain high quality video and audio.
I think the problem with the first solution is that most TV's when you plug in hdmi it expects audio to come thru that as well and won't pull audio in from analog with video coming in from digital. I'm hoping to use this when I travel in hotel TV's etc so small is ideal. not sure how large the box everyone uses here is.

The Displayport in the T400 doesn't do audio.
-
so what's the best portable high quality solution?
-
doesn't a displayport to HDMI adapter do this?

If the display port standard was designed for video, then it's not going to magically output an audio signal just because a Display port to HDMI adapter has been used.

DisplayPort does pass audio.
The HP ProBook 5310m has DisplayPort and some members are using DisplayPort -> HDMI connectors with great success. I just bought this one for my 5310m:

I verified the video works with my monitor; tonight I am going to try it with my HDTV and see if it outputs audio correctly. Some members in the 5310m owner's club thread have reported it does; see the posts on this page:

However if the T400's DisplayPort does not support audio . . . not much you can do other than use analog out. -
I guess I spoke too soon. Sorry for the incorrect information.
T400s w/displayport, how do I watch on TV with audio?
