I'm looking at the Acer Aspire 5290, and I like everything i see on it except the processor is fairly weak (1.5gig dual core). The other build of the Acer Aspire has a T7200 though, and I'm wondering how much of a difference you would see between these two processors in terms of gaming if everything else were to remain the same.
Thanks in advance,
Andrew

The T7200 is a faster processor, but in general usage, the difference won't be noticible. Having said that, the T7200 was the best processor, in terms of its price to performance ratio. If you can go for that processor, then it will be a very good compromise between peed and price. How much is the difference in price between the two processors?

Looks like it's about a $300 difference in price, but I'm not even sure I can get hte better processor. The main reason I'm asking this is because I can't find a review for the model with the weaker processor, so I can't find an accurate description of how good the laptop would be.
This is what I was looking at:
http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3897
While this is the actual laptop:
http://www.compusmart.com/Product/Default.aspx?SupplierPartNo=42456G&CatalogID=100
The main difference I can see seems to be the processor, I can't find anything else that really changed.
Thanks for the help btw,

Personally, I feel the $300 is too much for just the processor upgrade, but this is my opinion, and yours may differ. The T5250 is a good processor, and for the average user, a standard modern dual core processor provides more than enough processing power. Saving that $300 and spending some of it on other components, like a faster hard disk or more RAM, is a better idea to ncrease the general speed of a notebook.

yea it depends....if your really want to game the processor will help, but a huge amount, also video encoding and such tasks will be better with the t7200, but if your nto doing anything like that you wont notice a difference like said above

Will that processor be able to handle some modern games out today like say, bioshock or supreme commander? I have no expectation of playing these games on high settings, but atleast on medium settings, no AA, on native or lower resolutions?

Provided your graphics card is decent it will run both easily. The T7200 is quite capable. -
I have the T7300 in my D630, and the T5250 in my Vostro 1500. They are both very fast -- I do notice some difference in favor of the T7300, but not $300 worth! I have played the World in Conflict campaign demo on the T5250 with 8600M GT (DDR2) and it played flawlessly at 1440 x 900 and medium settings. Go cheap!
