Hello Everyone,
I'm A Extreme Newbie.this Is The First & Only Forum I've Ever Been A Member Of.if I'm In The Wrong Place Or Say The Wrong Thing, plese Let Me Know.
I Rebuild Transmissions For A Living And Use My Dell Vostro 1500 Laptop To Program Automotive Onboard Computers & Also For My Personal Use.i Was Going To Let My Kids Watch A Movie Using A S Viedo Jack,as I Have Before, when My Computer Popped.it Exploded The Mother Board Around The Power Jack.
I Replaced The Mother Board Only To Find Out It Also Took Out My Nvidia Gforce 8600 Video Card As The Charger Light Would Not Come On I'm Guessing A Short To Ground.i Decided To Upgrage To A 256m Nvidia Gforce Card.the Charger Light Now Comes On.
It Has A New Mother Board, two Times, new Viedo Card & Known Good Memory.i Can Run The Hard Drive Off Of My Desktop & It Works.now I'm In The Market For A Good T5470 Or Better Cpu As The Computer Will Still Not Post.power Light Comes On The Computer For Only A Few Seconds Then Turns Off.no Fan Or Any Noise.
My Real Question Is Does Anyone Know What Cpu Can I Use With The Original Bios If I Decide To Upgrade?another Factor Is A Bios Update, rev. V.54 For Service Techs Only, came With The Mother Board & Also Came With The Viedo Card.will This Allow A Higher Clock Speed Cpu To Be Used?a Problem I'm Having Is I Cant Start The Computer To Update The Bios That I Am Aware Of.can I Use A Updated Cpu & Boot From The Bios Disc?
Thanks For Everyones Patience.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Are you trying to say that you think the CPU is broken? Or incompatible?
The Vostro 1500 should be able to take any Socket P processor with an FSB of up to 800MHz. This includes the T5470. Assuming you have the latest BIOS (hell, even if you don't have the latest BIOS - the T5470 is pretty old now), incompatibility is out of the question.
Nonetheless, the processors themselves very rarely die; unless you've tested the board with another chip and verified that it works (or tested the processor on another board that's verified to work), I'd be inclined to assume that you still have a broken board, not a defective processor. -
Surely you must have the old CPU laying around... if the new CPU doesn't work right off the bat, you can pop in the old one, boot Windows, run the BIOS update utility, and eventually replace the old CPU.

I think he has the original processor Bog.
It sounds like by the process of elimination, he has replaced the motherboard, memory, and the graphics card. So since he still has problems, he thinks its the cpu.
Well their is a way to know for sure.
Since you are now familiar with taking apart your laptop, take it apart, so you can see the cpu. (remove the heatsink)
Now get to the point where you can power your system on.
Instead of using a heatsink, use your finger. Just lightly touch your finger to the central square on the processor.
With one hand touch the cpu, and with the other touch the power button.
If the cpu gets warm, or hot you know the cpu works. If the processor is cold, than the cpu is either broken, or their is something connected improperly somewhere along the line.
The processor will not burn you, it takes like 20 seconds for it to get hot enough to burn you.
You will know if the processor comes on.

Thanks K-tron & Everyone,
The T5470 Is My Original That I Suspect Is Faulty,i Have Not Replace It Yet.the Mother Board Has Actually Been Replaced 3 Times From Dell Referb, known Good Memory(original Before I Upgraded To 2 Gig) & Viedo Card.i Read It Is Not Normal For Cpu But A Transistor Next To My Power Jack Exploded So Bad That It Permently Stained The Inside Housing Even After Wiped With Wet Cloth(motherboard Removed Of Coarse).thanks For The Tip K-ton,i Will Try It Tonight.
I Would Like To Upgrade From My T5470 If That Is My Problem, but Wonder Will My Bios Work On Something With A Highr Clock Speed?does It Matter As Long As It Is 800mgh?i Cannot Update My Bios Because My Laptop Will Not Power Up But Must Run A Bios Update For The Motherboard When It Finally Does.
Thaks Again For Your Patience. -
You can use any processor you want which has a 800MHz FSB.
These are the only cpu's you can upgrade to:
T5870, T7100, T7250, T7300, T7500, T7700, T7800, T8100, T8300, T9300, T9500
I would say your bios can probably easily read up to a T7800.
I am not sure if it will read the 45nm chips, like the T8100 through the T9500.
