I've been mulling picking up a dv2800t. I always configured it with a T8100. I figured this was the closest to my current T7300.

What kind of hit would I take sticking with the T5550?

You can always take the T7300 out of your dv6500t, and put the T5550 in there.
Then you just put your T7300 in your dv2800t.

If you do not feel comfortable making the swap, the difference between the T8100 and the T5550 may be noticeable, but it most likely will only be a 5-8% performance drop. Its not like the T5550 is going to be the bottleneck. The bottleneck will most likely be from the harddrive.
