is this processor somewhat future-proof? If i'm going to be doing some light gaming and running some CAD software, how many years will this processor be useful for?

2GHz is OK for a few years. Gaming performance will depend on your choice of GPU.

It uses the older 667 bus speed, so Ill say at least get a Penryn since they are already being replaced.
edit: I didnt know if you were buying or already had the CPU. If your buying then my orignal post applies, if you already have it then youll be ok depending on your GPU like John said. Reaosn I said go penryn if your buying is you might as well buy 800mhz FSB and the slower. -

i'd rather have something w/ T8300 ... but atleast the laptop should be able to upgrade to a T8300(or maybe even a T9500) when thier prices fall even more
