I'm running XP SP3 on my N80Vn-X1 with Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 2.0GHz and GeForce 9650M GT DDR2. Could any CPU aficionados tell me if these temp numbers are off and call for an RMA ?
Data taken from HWMonitor, verified with Everest. No cooling pad or other accessories used.
Idle (no active apps, 28 processes running, 260 MB/3GB RAM consumption, 0-1% CPU usage)
CPU: 50 degrees Centigrade
GPU: 46 degrees Centigrade
HD: 39 degrees Centigrade
ACPI: 50 degrees Centigrade
Fan is constantly on, very quiet, but I can hear it if I focus.
Load (Orthos Small-FFTs Test for 7 minutes), 100% CPU usage:
CPU: 72 degrees
GPU: 56 degrees
HD: 41 degrees
Fan seems to constantly be on high under load.
Load (Mass Effect 1280X800, all high for 1 hour), 100% CPU usage:
CPU: 68 degrees
GPU: 63 degrees
HD: 39 degrees
Fan seems to constantly be on high under load.
The 50 C idle temp for the T5800 surprised me - I was expecting something around 35 C though admittedly I'm ignorant enough to not be confident that I had the right expectation. Is 50 C...around the "normal" idle temp for the T5800 ? The T5800 is 65nm process, but it does have lower clock than top of the line C2Ds.
I've tried googling away and searching these forums to no avail. Could anyone tell me if I'm getting alarmed over nothing, or is this off the ballpark expected temp ?
Anyone ? ;p
Thank you !

Yeah 50C is fine for that CPU. My T8100 stays around 45-50 without any cooling pad.
-
You're fine.
I have a T5670 that idles around 53, so 50c is nothing to worry about! -
The idle temps are normal. You can undervolt the CPU to lower its load temps significantly.

That seems high to me. The Pentium 4 in my Dell Inspiron 9100 idles around 60c.

My sensor in my t5800 dosent work exept upon boot up for a 1 time reading but when it does read its around 40°C
-
My T9400 idles at 44 C after using AS5. Previously it was idling around 50 C.

Hey, I have an Acer Aspire 5735 with T5800 CPU and it usually idles at around 45C. I see you guys say that's ok but still I find it a bit too much. I've been told that overusing a laptop (mine might be on for 12 hours/day) will cause it to overheat faster. Have you experienced anything similar? I mean I don't work on it for 12 hours, sometimes I just listen to music and download stuff for example.
Thanks in advance -

My dv4t has had a t9550 and a t9900 in it and both idle in the 20's and 30's and max out in the 50's. I then put in a pitiful 1.67GHZ T5450 and it idles in the freaking 50's... The T5000 series are messed up....

its a bit warm for idle... but not dangerous.
Try Undervolting via The Undervolting Guide.
...Wait a minute here, did you realize the thread is from 2008? lol. -
Ya I did notice that... lol
I have undervolted it a bit but didn't do lengthy stress tests. After like 2 minutes stressing it went up to 75C. Right now it's at 46. Will do some more tests tomorrow... Seems I'll have to use my laptop more cautiously and not play on it for hours
Anyways thanks for the help -
The T5800 in my Asus N50 idles at 41 degrees, with it undervolted to 1 volt, and load is it 59 degrees, again, undervolted.
9650m GT idles 52 degrees (stock settings) and load is 64 degrees.
your temperatures seem a bit high... -
OK, I've undervolted it by quite a lot... now if I don't put it under heavy load it doesn't heat above 50C. That sound better?
(of course under heavy load it easily passes 60...) -
here are my idle temps, undervolted using CPUGenie
