I am about to by a T60 but i am only getting a 1gig stick installed and plan to install a second one if and when i need it, because lenovo charges $180 for the extra stick. I know you have to remove the touchpad area to install the ram, how hard would that be. I have never open up a laptop befor will it be easy to damage the laptop installing another stick. any one have any experince upgrading the ram on a T60?

You shouldn't need to. Most RAM is installed either two sticks on the bottom of the machine, or one below the keyboard and one under the keyboard/touchpad area. I'd wager that they'll put your one stick in the harder to access area.

I could be wrong about the X60's, but that'd be the first laptop I've heard of like that, and I have a T43 that takes memory in the bottom of it.

I recently upped my RAM by popping in another 1GB stick. You are correct, the RAM slots are underneath the palmrest. You have to remove 4 screws on the back of the machine and then carefully lift out the palmrest. It's not hard to get out. Then just put the memory in, and then comes the tricky part: Putting the palm rest back on correctly so it fits tight with no flex. That took me a few tries.

When I got my thinkpad there was even a sheet from Lenovo showing how to add more memory (how to take off palmrest, install ram, replace palmrest)

Any more questions, feel free to PM me or post in this thread.

I believe Lenovo will allow T60 users to self-upgrade their RAM modules. It should not void the warrenty.

Yes...i hope not...because no SEAL in the screw for opening...
But sometime the "bad" shop here use this GAP for void the warranty...,so the Shop will earn money from customer...

I plan in next month will upgrade by my self....
Now price cheap enough...under 100USD/1GB ithink...
