    Hi Everyone,

I'm considering upgrading the processor in my laptop. Its currenlty a core 2 duo T6500. The laptop itself has DDR3 1066 memory and I believe the chipset supports 1066 bus. I looked it up some time ago and I believe it was the PM45 chipset. So naturally I wanted to upgrade to a 1066 bus cpu along with higher clock rates and more cache. Trying to find something thats compatible with my laptop. I'm not sure about what socket types there are for laptops and what models are what socket types.

With that said I was looking for best bang for the buck and the T9550 looks like a good way to go. The T9600 is a bit too much. Anyone know if this is compatible with my setup? Also any other suggestions for an upgrade?

The laptop is an Acer 5739g and I already opened the bottom cover which gives good access to the CPU. Not sure yet how hard it will be to remove the heatsink, but the socket looks pretty straight forward.

    Thanks,

    Tim.

If you've got a 45 series chipset, you can pretty much use any 25W or 35W Socket P processor, right up through the T9900 - including the T9550 and T9600. Extremes and Quads may work, but due to the higher TDP, those are always going to be a crapshot if the machine didn't original ship with them.
