I was looking at the Sony Vaio FW-490 and was looking at customizing it.

A P7350 was $50 more than a T6500. Sorry, that I'm a processor neophyte...is this upgrade worth it? Any significant difference between the two looking down the road?

Also, as I've been shopping around I noticed I didn't really care for the Dell XPS 16" screen which is 1366x768. The FW-490 is 1600x900, will that look a little 'better' or will it look as stretched as the XPS?

Thanks for humoring my basic questions guys...this forum is definitely invaluable!

Neither of the two processors are good. If i were u i'd try to get a msi or something else. For the same price as sony you could get a much better processor etc. I strongly recommend u get MSI. Sony makes laptops that look good but have crap inside. For the same price as a sony one, i got a much better gpu with my hp.

Both of those processors are going to put up similar benchmark numbers; you will not notice the difference between either. Go with the cheaper one. What kind of programs will you be using with this notebook?

1366x768 is an abysmal resolution . . . you only have 768 pixels of vertical space, which means you will be doing a lot of scrolling. 1600x900 is much better because it has a lot more space.

The Dell XPS offers a RGBLED LCD (1920x1080) but it costs $250 for the upgrade. Might be worth considering if you have the money

Thanks all for the advice. The laptop will be mainly used for light gaming on 'older games' like Civ IV and the usual internet/word processing stuff.

    This forum is great.
