Well To be honest I went to the stores today ready to buy a i5 dell studio but it was ugly really huge and horrible screen. So I started looking at the Sony and Asus. That were around the same price as the dell but had the 2 intels mentioned above but had 1080p screen dedicated graphics cards blu ray players for the same price.
Originally I wanted to be with the in crowd and have a new i5 or i7 but realized it wasn't worth it.I would rather have the other features also I wanted to ask is Asus any good I dont really know much about them

Okay, maybe 'smack' was too strong an adjective...

But considering that this is the newest platform, it definitely 'smacks' it in other areas other than pure HP.

But this is also interesting too:

    See:
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmarklist.2436.0.html

P8700 is rated at #37 spot and i3 530M is rated at #49 spot (but no benchmarks).

What is interesting is that the i3 330M model (lower end) is at #55 spot but scores higher than the P8700 in the few benchmarks it does have.

Your call vIGAMEIv, but these are close enough performance-wise (for me, with the edge going to the i3 series because of HyperThreading) for your specified uses.

What you'll also get is much better integrated graphics performance and also better battery life too.

    Cheers!

everything in that laptop is great except for the graphics card... especially if u want to game on Max... i recommend ASUS G51VX which has core 2 quad and NVDIA GTX260M for about $1100-1200... or the G51J which has core i7 instead or ASUS G73 which has core i7 , ATI 5870 , which is fastest mobile card and DirectX 11 , full hd screen and blue ray for $1600... that should last way longer than the studio XPS 16...

i3 330 does perform better than both of these, not by a huge ammount, but it does! (Based on a single benchmark result, I coulnt find anything else...)

Do I have to worry about the i3 prototype technology being unstable in the beginning?

I dont think so, the i7 has been on the market for 6 months and there has been no problem, in the worst case, they will update the bios.. I'm pretty sure Intel wasnt on a hurry with the i3, they probably took all the time needed to make it perfect!
