Hello. I was looking to upgrade a dv9500 that has a t5250 in it to a penryn chip and could get a good deal on a t6400 chip. Now it has 1mb l2 cache less then the t8x00 serries designed for santa rosa. Do you think it would work. They both have 800mhz fsb.
T5250 = 1.5ghz 667mhz FSB 2mb l2 cache 65nm
T6400 = 2.0ghz 800mhz FSB 2mb l2 cache 45nm

Hello,
Swapping the CPU will increase your laptop performance, you can be sure. The T6400 will fit in the socket...both ones have P socket, 2MB L2. T6400 will run little cooler, I think. If it is good deal, go for it.
Hope, I could help....Cheers -
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
It should work... I'm pretty sure there are manufacturers who are selling machines with 965-Chipsets and T6x00 processors; it's probably just a matter of BIOS support.

Why the T6400?
I think you would be happier with a P8400 or something around their. The newer processors are surprisingly cheaper than the older ones, its just a matter of getting a good deal

Because its a santa rosa laptop the p8400 has a 1066mhz FSB and either wont work or will run slower because it will have to run at 800mhz. Plus i can get the T6400 for cheap. Hopefully at least.

oh yeah, silly me.
Usually every so often a santa rosa cpu comes up for sale at an amazing price on the marketplace or on hardforum.
Intel has so many mobile cpu's its ridiculous. They should stick to a better numbering scheme

I liked the platform before santa rosa i can name every single cpu off the top of my head and every spec on it. Since they kept socket P there is a million diffrent cpu's with all sorts of 50's and 70's at the end indicating FSB speed and other little goodies.
