I'm close to buying the 1520. Hope to order this evening. Looking at the Dells at a kiosk today, they seem so much more solid than any other brand I've looked at (Toshiba, HP, etc). Dell now has a $250 student discount which makes it a great deal. I've decided on everything but the processor, and have narrowed between the T7100 an T5450. Is the 7100 worth the $50 additional cost over the 5450, or will I really not notice a difference in performance? I'll be using it for some Photoshop and Pinnacle (video editing) work, but mostly for still photos. thanks.

The 7100 will show a small increase in the cpu intensive apps like Ps and Pinnacle so if you have money then go for it.

Also consider the Vostro 1500, it may end up being cheaper than the 1520.

It is unlikely that you will notice much of a difference between the T5470 and the T7100. However as Wingsbr said, if you have the $50 go for it. It's not like getting more power is a bad thing. :)

I need to go with the Inspiron. It's the only lline you can use the $250 student discount on.

$50 doesn't seem much at all. If I was you, i'd go for it.
But, I'd give priority to RAM, HDD & Battery upgrade first. If all that is fine, then 50 bucks for a faster processor is not bad.
