Just a simple qn... this or the other
-
No difference at all speedwise. RAM on laptops runs always with a divider and as you might know when a divider kicks in you might as well say goodbye to any expected performance gains.
So the answer would be.
The cheapest one -

villageman, could you explain the devider thing in more detail?
-
Yeah.
The cheapest one.
If the price makes no difference to you, then the 667. For fluff reasons. -
I Like 533
-
If it is running "asynchronous" then you will see other ratios ie 5:8, 1:2 etc and the memory is running bellow specs. -
Then why is 667mhz not faster? C2D runs a fsb of 667mhz. That would make it 1:1.
667mhz is 2-3% faster in benchmarks. Atleast in ram benchmarks. It is not worth paying for since you wont notice a differance but it is faster.
A C2D with 667mhz FSB has a maximum through put of 5.3Gb/s. DDR2 533 has 8.5GB/s and DDR2 667 10.6GB/s so the FSB cant make use of the extra bandwidth. That is why DDR2 667mhz is only miniable faster.
DDR2 667mhz can be noticable faster when using onboard graphics. Since then the graphic chip takes away some of the bandwidth. -
^ becuz a cpu is quaded pumped and rams are dual pump

There is essentially no performance difference between 533MHz and 667MHz RAM; the latter runs at a higher frequency but is penalized by higher latencies.
Check www.newegg.com for cheap RAM. They have a 2GB kit of DDR2-667 for about $115 last time I looked. -

667 for maximum system performance.
-
I did not vote. There is no difference.
-
i WOULD SAY WHICH EVER IS CHEAPER
-
The 667 actually shows a slight advantage in big number crunching programs, while "serious" gamers actually prefer the 533 with much lower latencies.
-
Go for the cheapest one. That said i went for 667 ram, since i already had on stuck in my computer.
-
latency and memory timings also wud play a factor here too. lower quality RAM may not have the tighter timings more expensive ones might
-
Most Ram today have the same timings for the same frequencies, i.e 533 MHz are CL4 and 667 MHz are CL5. I have seen posts that talks about 667 MHz CL4 ram, but they are not available in swedish stores (that i can see). In fact most 1 GB so-dimm ram her are value. Non-value Ram overclocks (much) better, which is why they are recommended in desktops. Notebooks don't overclock, so there's really no use for more expensive ram when it performs as well as value ones.

I have a question related to this...
So when Santa comes out and 800Mhz ram is released will there be any benefit? Or will 533Mhz and 667Mhz be okay?
Tim -
It will be a performance increase. If 667 MHz CL5 = 533 CL4, then even 800 MHz CL5 give better performance.
T7200, 533 rams or 667 rams better? plz vote
