The notebook I'm looking at (dell insprion 1420) has the option of going with either the Core 2 T7300 or the T5450 with nothing in between. The cost difference between the two is $200 (CAD). I'm not doing any gaming but I do plan to do a little photoshopping and maybe some light video work. Mostly this is going to be used for taking notes in class, writing essays and surfing the web. How big of a performance difference is there between these two and does it justify the $200 price difference? Also, is there a difference in their effect on battery life? (which is just as important to me as performance)

    Thanks,

The T5450 is easily good enough to handle what you want and I personally (as someone who uses a laptop for exactly the same things as you) would not spend the money on the upgrade.

The T7300 runs at a higher speed so will likely have a greater strain on the battery but it is likely to be a matter of minutes.

The T7300 is a good upgrade and is worth the money.

$200? Hard to say. I'd guess for your usage probably not worth it.

Is there a choice for the T7100? I would go for that, otherwise get the T5450. It is good enough for what you want to do.

I guess I agree get faster CPU and 800Mhz FSB is nice, but upgradability on a laptop is not really a good plan. By the time you are ready (need) to do it is a better idea to buy new. I just don't see upgradebility on a notebook like a desktop.
