Is upgrading from a C2D T7300 ->T7500 worth $75? What exactly would be the perks? I use my laptop for a few simple games (Guild Wars, Guild wars 2 when it comes out) and I want it to last for a couple of years.
The GPU is an 8600M GT btw.
Ah - also. I'm getting my laptop cleaned/arctic silver applied this weekend. Is there anything else I could ask the tech to do in order to lower my cpu temp? I've already optimized vista etc.
-
10% it is choice. The common thought is 10% is minor.
You could undervolt to reduce heat. Thread always on the front page of this section. -
I wouldn't say the upgrade is worth it. T7300 -> T8300, maybe. But T7300 to T7500? Not so much.
-
stick with the T7300, it will be more than powerful enough to play those games. Plus, dont ask the tech to do undervolting, cause it takes time, and unless this tech guy is helping you for free, than dont hit him up on it. Computer tech's charge a lot, so dont be surprised if he charges 2 hours of work, to put arctic silver on your processor.
What laptop is it, cause their may be articles here on disassembly, which could save you some money, by you doing the work yourself.

Yeah, I'm dealing with geek squad so I'm probs getting ripped, it's an asus g1s-x1. He's charging $50 (+ the $5 for Arctic Silver from ebay) to apply arctic silver and clean out the laptop.
-
I don't think the geek squad would undervolt. Anyway I meant you do it. But then K-T and I would have you doing the arctic silver yourself.
-
I'm surprised that the Geek Squad you're going to will do that, because due to agreements and such, we're not licensed to open laptops (excluding RAM). Well, we can, but there has to be a direct door to what we're dealing with (like RAM for instance).
No, we will not undervolt unless you get a very slow precinct that is willing to do it. I, on the other hand, would do it on the side haha. -
Polarix you have been outed! But you guys have to follow procedures and use system resources and all to verify. So at a certain level you guys have your hands tied. I can say or do as I please.
