I recently opened up mine and my wife's laptops(both HP) to put in Arctic Silver. the suprising thing was the processors were numbered Exxx instaead of T8100 andf T9400. I thought that numbereing was followed for Intel Mac processor equivalents. The processors have always showed up as T8100 and T9400 in Vista so i was very surprised to find this.
Anyone else has noticed this?

These numbers are probably manufacturing plant identification codes, rather than the model number of the CPU. I wouldn't worry about it unless the processors are not being recognized to be what they are supposed to be. -
Overall I don't think it's somehow related to adesai's question. -
I know Centrino is a platform.
But why aren't all laptops labelled "Centrino".
What is the actual difference on the ones with a "Core2Duo sticker"?
Just wi-i??
By the way, to the OP.
You can download CPU-Z - that'll tell you all you ever wanted to know.
This is a different tool that will do the job too:

CPU-Z, CoreTemp, etc all show it as T9400 and T8100. Guess i was probably reading the wrong set of numbers. Am too lazy to re-open the laptops up.

In most cases, if a laptop has the Centrino sticker, there is no Core 2 Duo sticker, as that would be redundant.
Centrino 2 refers to a Centrino platform of the Montevina generation. -
and Santa Rosa is Centrino (1)
I thought though that the blue stickers could have indicated a different CPU - it seems I was wrong then. -
I was mistaken. I opened up one of the laptops to recheck the numbers. I did find t8100 among the various numbers. Guess wasen't properly looking and too tired the first time....
