    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T8100 (2.1GHz/800Mhz FSB/3MB cache)
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T8300 (2.4GHz/800Mhz FSB/3MB cache)

Apparently, it is only a difference of 0.3 GHz for $50, but I am not very familiar with how CPUs work. Would I notice a difference between the two, now or in the near future, while using my computer for gaming or for general purposes? It may be relevant to note that the system I'm ordering will have 4GB of memory and a dual 8800M GTX GPU.

Try to look around what is difference in cost if you get the T9300
(2.5GHz/800Mhz FSB/6MB cache) and this baby runs cooler then T8300.
    I highly recommend it.

    Cheers...

That's $125 more than the T8100, $75 over the 8300. I wasn't really considering it because of that, but I will if it's highly recommended.

You can afford dual 8800M GTX but don't wanna get a T9xxx series? :p I'd say QX9300 FTW. But seriously the T9300 sounds good, if you can even go up to a P9600 or T9600 it would be even better.

It depends on what you'll be using it for. No need to spend extra money that you can pocket on a processor upgrade you won't utilize

If the tasks/games you're running aren't highly CPU-intensive, then there will be no point in upgrading to the T8300. You'll be better of spending those 50 bucks on a cooler :p
The T8100 is a Penryn, and is very fast (though its kinda entry-level). And again, being a Penryn, it should be a good undervolter as well.

The P9600 and T9600 won't fit, I think. The next faster ones would be
    the T9500 2.56GHz, 6MB and X9000 2.8 which can be overclocked
    to 3.0GHz.

The T9300 has 6MB cache, the T8300 has 3MB cache only.

Ya but he is looking for low budget. If he was not then perhaps he would have gone for X9100 or quad cores. So its best for him to get T8300.

Well, in that case you are absolutely right. The T8300 will be the best.

Thanks, all. I went with the T8300. Most of what I wanted to spend on upgraded specs went towards the GPUs, so I didn't want to go too high with the CPU, as well.

The T9500 is 2.60GHz. I happen to be using one right now. :p

Honestly, this is a very good processor, I think. I highly recommend it if you can afford it.

Right. I made typo, I was thinking about T9300 as 2.5GHz and
at the same time about T9500 as 2.6GHz.
