I am planing to buy a Dell XPS M1530, Intel Core2 Duo T8100(2.1GHz 800MHz FSB, 3M L2 Cache), 3GB DDR2,256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT,250GB SATA Hard Drive .
I am not very sure whether to go in for a T8100 or T8300(2.4GHz FSB and cache is the same as T8100).
The price difference is ~$50. My laptop activities are heavy into system software development/compilation, gaming, movies and web browsing.
With future applications being more demanding on processor speed, is it worth investing $50 on the T8300?
How does one compare both of them in a long term aspect?
Thanks

For general programs, they will perform the same
but since you said heavy activities, i will recommend the best processor you can get -
It does not matter! Unless you can afford the $50. Get the 8100!

That is an extremely cheap upgrade for the price ($50), go for it.

For $50, id say its worth the upgrade unless you really dont need that extra edge

Would you notice much of a difference downgrading from a T9300 to a T8100?
Getting rid of XPS m1530 (2.5ghz 6mb cache) for Asus F9sg (2.1ghz 3mb cache) -
This might help you pick? Link

There is not much of a speed difference between the T9300 and the T8100. Both are very fast dual core processors, which have more than enough power to run any program. The only noticeable difference could be seen, if you are doing CAD renderings, but even then, the difference would only be a few seconds.

This thread may help (and you can see my post in this thread since I have a T8100 and a T9300):

just undervolt the t8100 and then overclock it. you'll reach t8300 speeds
