How big is the difference between the T8300 (2.4GHz w/ 3MB Cache) and T9300 (2.5GHz w/ 6MB Cache) CPUs? Percentage wise how better performing is the T9300 than the T8300?

Let's say 8% in games/multimedia and 4-5% in everything else

How does a 2.2GHz Pentium 4-M compare to a T8300 or T9300?
-
Let us not guess as the comparison has been done. I crunched numbers and speculated 4% to 12% in previous threads (several this week) and to toot my own horn I was spot on!
From AnandTech. T9300 vs T8300
12% is imperceptible with out a stopwatch. I think it is lower than 8% in games. I have other tests measuring the difference between L2 so I have pretty good baseline. The clock diff is 4% so for what it is worth the L2 really makes little diff. If money is an issue the T8300 is the better buy. Do not worry about the 3MB vs 6MB at best 8% diff. -

The wPrime results in this thread are an indicator of raw CPU performance. A 2.0GHz Pentium 4 is over 200 seconds and 2.6GHz pentium 4 is 110s while the T8300 is around 33s and the T9300 around 31s (quicker is better).

If you need the money, the T8300 is MORE THAN ENOUGH, as it is 2.4 Ghz.
If you must have a better performance, and possibly better battery life, the T9300 is a good choice. However for gaming, the T8300 is quite enough. For multimedia apps,it might take a few seconds later to do the job. -

I can't find a big table of SuperPi results as we have for WPrime. The nearest I have is that in my G11 review (link below). This includes 1.6GHz Pentium 4 mobile = 4m 5s
From the SuperPi thread
3GHz P4 = 1m 59s
T9300 = 44s
So by interpolation and extrapolation, a 2.2GHz P4 should deliver 170 to 180s, so about 4 times slower than the T9300 in SuperPi. However, there's a lot more to overall performance than a CPU benchmark.
OK?

Ok........

Well, ahem, at least I have that warm fuzzy feeling if anything would take advantage of the extra catch
I think most people would be pleased with either one, especially the T8300 on a budget.

No comparison. The T8300 spanks the old system, especially with multiple tasks in process. It's far cooler, and the fans are far quieter (likely because the CPU is cooler). Audio/video encoding is light years faster, even with simple open source programs like Audacity.
If you're using your laptop portably, the power savings benefits are decent too. It's not even a close contest; unfortunately the P4 just wasn't that great of a CPU for mobile computing for many different reasons.
I liked my P4-M laptop (which was one of the better ones; I've seen some lousy P4-M models that were insanely hot, with miserable battery life). I love my T8300 one, which is superior in every way.
