My T9300 showed up today!!!!!!! My excitement however is tempered by the fact that I have yet to get the new hard drives installed and working so I figured before I rip my laptop open I should check with you experts..........
Am I going to have any problems replacing the T7100 (Socket P-478 chip) with the T-9300 (also Socket P-478). The Bios should be the same from what I've been able to glean using this site and google.........and I can't think of anything else that should have any effect on this swap.
Then again, I couldn't think of any reason installing a new hard drive or two would be a problem either so............![]()

Make sure you update the BIOS to the latest one (penryn support) before you attempt to change the processor.
-
I do have the latest Toshiba BIOS on the laptop already. I don't see anything in it or online anywhere that differentiates it from Penrynn and on-Penrynn however.

have fun ripping that bad boy apart.....i used to own a 205...with a T9300

Toshiba laptops are very hard to take apart, since they are designed to be durable. If you have a digital camera, I suggest taking pictures of each step, and the screws used in the removal of each piece. You will have to take the entire system apart to change the processor, so make sure that you can put it back together the right way.
After reassembling, make sure you have no screws leftover. Do not start it up without putting all of the screws in their proper location.
Another thing, is thermal paste. Make sure that you apply good thermal paste, so that the cpu has good thermal conduction with the heatsink. Most people use arctic silver 5, since it has made a great name for itself, and it is regarded as the best paste.

aint that the damn truth....i wonder if he has the disassembly guide....i have it if you want it. just be careful removing all the connectors and cables.

Ive never found toshies THAT hard to take apart... Well, atleast not compared to sony's.
And yes, AS5=great stuff. Though there IS better stuff out there, the better stuff out there is @#$%^&* expensive, and only about 5-10% more thermal efficient. Not really worth the 50$ more a tube it ran last I saw it XD
This should help greatly in the whole matter if you hadn't already found it. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=179789 -
at least for me, the link is broken pretty much. it only downloads 8kb of the pdf and says its complete. if anybody needs the guide, PM me and ill email it to you.
-
Well I never had a guide.
I fix my friends laptops when they break, and most of the a105 and older systems I have worked on, are very hard to disassemble. the new ones may not be, but from my experience it was pretty difficult.

it still is on the x205's. i wouldnt have tried it had i not had a guide. taking off the screen, disconnecting like 20 different connectors, taking off the palmrest...

I do have the guide though when I printed it out, thanks to all the sand in the printers out here, the pictures are close to illegible. We have a computer maintenance facility out here that works on the military computers and they said they'd give me a hand with it so hopefully I won't have too many issues. Worst case I'll box it up in pieces and ship it back to the States if I can't get it working right. Have to anyway thanks to the hard drive issues.
I bought a small tube of the Artic Silver when I ordered the processor based on what I'd seen on here.
Thanks for the info guys.
