I am planning to buy a T9400 CPU from a seller on Ebay soon and he was selling two versions and i want to know what is the difference between these 2 T9400 versions.

Be careful, both are ES. Those may not be exactly the same as the final version. For example some ES chips may run hotter than usual or may not have temperature sensors.

So it's best to spend a bit extra for the final version from other sellers?

ES is like gambling. You may get a nice CPU for cheap or you may end up with a lemon. The final versions are always good...

Is a Final ES cpu the retail version?

I would stay away from any ES chip, regardless of being an "initial" ES or "final" ES.
