I am thinking of buying a laptop gaming rig however I am curious in regards to what CPU is decent enough for some really good gaming. Don't get me wrong I would love to overkill a gaming laptop but its too costly. In addition which CPU would work best with a Single NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260M? and would going dual make that much of a difference when playing Crysis?

Well, its actually been discussed before but a q9000 is potentially better for games such as crysis or gta 4 because of the amount of cpu usage reuqired for the game itself. Other older games like WOW or Warcraft 3 will run faster on the t9800 because its only single threaded.

The quad has much more power than the dual . . . get the Q9000. Even for single-threaded applications, where proponents of fast dual-cores claim supremacy, you have to think about the perceivable difference. Fact is, there isn't much if any.

There's no reason to get a dual when you can get a quad in this day and age. If battery power is important, then you probably shouldn't be looking at laptops available with quads.

Even if its only 2.0 Ghz? So would it be worth it to get the SLI or just stick with one discrete GPU? Could I get by just with one GPU with the Games that are coming out now a days?

For the M17x, I would get a quad-core (if you can afford it, otherwise the P8700 or T9600 work well), dual GTX 280M, and the WUXGA display. It already comes well-equipped with 4GB of RAM and a 7200RPM hard drive.

Noooo not another dual vs quad question. If only advanced forum search worked I would have like over 100 posts to site.

Well Chaz already answered the question, if you would like more detailed reasons why the quad is the better choice I would recomend searching for some threads with key words "dual vs quad" also my Asus w90 comes with a Q9000 and two 4870's in crossfire, I have had no trouble gaming even at stock speeds and have game benchmarks posted, but I was easily able to overclock the cpu to 2.7ghz (not sure if the M17x can do that or not)

If you have to ask, just get a QX9300. It does both well, lol :D

But really, even if it's only 2.0 ghz, the Q9000 is more than adequate for gaming. People often overestimate the difference higher clockspeed makes for gaming. Your GPU will almost always be the bottleneck.

it mostly depends on game but; go for quad. Like anothergeek said: QX9300 if you can.
I have a T9600 at 2.80Ghz I play almost only GTA IV and my CPU ussage is always between 97-98%. I have nVidia 9800M GTX as GPU. Hope this gives you an idea... ;)

In any case, the q9000 will destroy the t9800 in multi threadded enviroments, but in my honest oppinion, 2ghz is adiquate for anything in a single threadded enviroment, and if it isn't, the weight will bear a bit harder on the GPU, so it will ballance out quite nicely :)

Performance wise, both are good though.

Qx is another case, its a god core :D :D huge potential.
