Lately I noticed my inspiron 9300 temps are hotter then usual , 40cpu 50gpu when idle and going much higher underload .

At first I thought it was because of the summer but the other day I got weird lines on my screen and today my notebook blue screened on me for the first time with a hardware error .

Unfortuntly compressed air wouldn't help much , the notebook is already undervolted and a coolpad is out of the question , besides its a chance to take the thing apart .

Before messing with AS5 I dismantled the fans and found a *carpet* of dust blocking the air from flowing trough the heat sinks grills .

Its only 14 months or so but it seems that to really service your lappy you need to dismantle your notebooks fans and have access to the heatsink grill .

No amount of compressed air or vacumming is going to remove that dust . Just use a soft brush #6 and carefully brush the delicate grill bars , then the fan blades , its gonna get dirty again soon but the more you clean the more time you'll have till next service .

Now ideling at 33/46 , and about 45/65 under load . Hope it help .

Hm, I have the 1150, sometimes it gets alittle too hot, but that is cause of the weather. When I have cool weather, my notebook is cool also. I have 1150 for about almost 2 yrs now. Of course, I do maintence at least once per month, like clean the heat sink and the fan with compressed air.

Compressed air gets rid of all of that on my computer every time. It might be because I have been keeping mine clean since it came out of the box, but compressed air does the trick for me.

If you do it early and often compressed air will do a pretty good job, but I'd still recommend opening it up and cleaning it out every once and a while.

Whenever I take the notebook apart , I always take some pictures jusy in case ( for an article , reference ec. )

Picture 1 : the blocked Grill , the left fuzzy layer is dust .

Picture 2 : the dust "carpet" peeled abit .

Picture 3 : the fan push the air trough the grill/heatsink outside .

In this design no amount of compressed air is gonna move anything because the dust in there is already subject to constant air blowing on it and because there is NO way to get even near it from the outside or even inside without removing the fan .

The notebook was cooler when subjected to external cooling or cooler temps but still it wasn't as cool as out of the box .

If your notebooks heatsink design allows complete compressed air cleaning trough monthly cleaning then you've saved yourself the trouble .

But if its not cool as it was out of the box you might wanna take a look between the fan and the inside grill .

Correct, If you keep it clean from the start, It should be fine and the dust shouldnt compress on the screen. This happend to my dads old latitude, he never cleaned it and after about 3 years the motherboard went.

Looks like I'm not the only one .

However today I got another 1 sec static lines on my screen , I don't know if its the GPU or something else but it doesn't look good . The static lines is like vertical lines of "garbage" or "noise" across the bottom 2/3 of the screen .
