Hi,
I just upgrade to a TL 66 (From TL 58). The Temperature, according to Everest, is CPU 50 C, CPU 48, CPU 51. What is the norm?
-
I used a sempron for a little while, and with RMclock my CPU temp were around 45-50c under word, and 60-62c when the CPU is under load.
-
Those numbers are even better than my undervolted TL-58 (idle 58C).
-
Wow 58C is a ridiculous idle temp for a cpu. What are your load temps?
-
Only 63C or so. The laptop has a long history of overheating issues.
-
so, from what i get it seems that the temperatures are fine.
thanks -
My Hp laptop is running very hot.. I wonder if some of the reason is the reduced heatsink area of Penryn compared to a Merom. Or if the DV2000 case isn't able to handle the full 35W+ heat output of a 2.6Ghz processor at 44Amps
The cpu temps can get quite high, but similar to the G86M Nvidia 8400GS graphics chip built on an 80nm process!
But, it rarely crashes and is wonderfully fast. The new 320Gb hdd is running over 60* at times- HDtune reported as too hot.... anyhow.

You kinda hijacked the thread, but
Yeah, youre right about running too hot, You are pushing 200F with both cpu cores and the graphics.
You need to try undervolting, and read the nbr cooling guide.
Prop that system up and let air circulate underneath it. If that cant keep the temperatures down enough, than its time for a good notebook cooler.
My cpu uses 125 watts. 1.45V at 82 amps, and my Opteron at 2.6Ghz never breaks 60C, or 140F even under full load for hours on end.
Their is no reason for your system to be running that hot.
DO you have it running on your bed, or a soft surface which is choking the fans and blocking the vents?
You should be worrying about your system, cause those temps are out of control, and it will burn up on you if you dont do something. Also that harddisk temperature is not safe.
Shut off background processes which are taxxing the harddrive, cause that will decrease harddrive usage and thus drive temperature.

Found my Issue. My power settings were set on "Power Saving" because of which my notebook was running at an under clocked speed (I think .8 GHz). This is the reason that despite the stress test the CPUs temperature would go past 50.
Hence, when I reseted the power settings to "performance", soon after, the fans kicked in, CPU began to Run at 2.3Ghz and during the stress test (for about 2 minutes) the highest temperature recorded was 83C.
Guess I might have to go for the undervolting thing.
Thanks -
I have AMD. I use Notebook Hardware Control and set to dynamic switching. This makes it run at 800Mhz when more is not needed. But when needed it goes up to full speed. It does not slow the system it changes immediately. I highly recommend this setting it gives full performance but stays cooler.

Nope probably I can't use the TL 66 at its max speed, the notebook has started to shutdown and freeze automatically when use IamTOO to convert videos to iPod format.
One reason could be that I didn't replace the thermal paste. I try to put new paste again and see if that makes any difference. -
^ You could also try undervolting. The guide is here.
-
I will try undervolting once the processor is able to run at max speed with the default voltage. It would be difficult to run the stress test otherwise.
-
Nope after applying the thermal paste here was no difference, After three minutes of stress test, Highest temperature for Core 1 82C and Core 2 90C.
-
On the other hand, the computer should be able to operate at maximum stress on stock paste and voltages without hitting such ridiculous temperatures. When I hit 83C with my HP, it warped the plastic table it was resting on; and the table has a lifetime warranty. -
Unforunately Undervolting is not an option anymore. Look at the following Temperature.
And this temperature is after Mcafee did some updating. I system would hang or Shutdown if I try Undervolting. I have just reduced the voltage to 1.1V from the default 1.2V. No stress test.
I think one option could be to place the TL 59 back in.
OR as you said for a cooler.
Bye the way what is ACPI in the picture.
The Max opertaing Temperature for TL66 is 95C

Done, Downgrade back to the TL 58. MAx Temp at 80.
Now where did i put that 8600M GT,.. lol -
You should spend a few hours undervolting and checking for stability because it will cut your cpu temperatures.
Also cleaning the fan and vent is also a good idea, if you havent done that yet.
You could always short the fan controller to force the fans to always run at full
K-TRON -
I can't stress the system. I system Halted even at 1.1V (Default is 1.2). The fan is always on.
Do you know do I know if the fan is running at full speed?
System is pretty new, the fan and the vent is clean. -
When undervolting AMD processors, make sure that you go into the advanced cpu tabs and make sure to click on "AMD certified P-STATE transistors"
My opteron is unstable if that box is not checked off. So try undervolting it again using amd transistors.
Good luck, you should be able to undervolt a little bit.

Let me try it on the TL 58,..
