I was wondering for those of you who have bought or had your laptop come pre-installed with a tv tuner do you really use it all that often, or am I just wasting money? I know this is a pretty subjective question, but wanted to get people's opinions on how needed a card like this is.

Could be worth it say in a dormroom rather than needing a tv and pc you could just use your tuner-it would enable you to record things to. You can always download stuff to without a tuner.

All comes down to whether it will be used.

I recently put a tv tune in my desktop and I love it. I live at college, so I had no way of recording shows that were on when I couldn't be in my room. Now I never miss anything. I have a regular TV too, cuz I generally can't see my computer from my bed, which is a nice place to watch some stuff.

I just baught a avermedia Hybrid card, lets me watch analogue tv anywhere in the world and Digital tv with the DVB-T standard so places like AUS, UK, NZ and some parts of Asia, The quality is incredible it weighs next to nothing and when i play my ps2 through it there is no lag what so ever.

i was thinking of getting this tv tuner

    http://www.buy.com/prod/KWorld_USB_2_0_TV_Tuner/q/loc/101/202247133.html

mostly for its pvr capabilities.... that way when im at night class, out for the night, etc. i can just record whatever shows i want and watch them later.

also, when it's football season, im thinking of splicing the cable so that we can watch a game on the tv and have one on my laptop so we got two games going instead of switching channels all of the time

    seems like a worthwhile investment.

Wow, who knew so many people were interested in TV cards. I just saw one listed as a Dell option and didn't know how well it was recieved.

i still cant find one where people have no problems. It seems that every single tv tuner card has mixed opinions. Some users would say its great and perfect, while some say its useless and worthless...

I just got the Hauppage PVR usb2 MCE edition last night from Dell. I got to be a DIY tivo. Set it up, got it running quickly and easily. Worked well at first, but after a few hours the audio & video lost synch. Hopefully a driver update will fix that tonight.
