I opened up my girlfriend's ram space to check the ram, and then opened up the top plastic cover (the one covering the power buttons and the monitor hinges), took out the keyboard, and used a can of compressed air to clean out the fan. After assembling everything together, the laptop's screen won't turn on. Totally no power is going to it.

    What could be the issue?

Is the computer booting (power lights come on, HDD light flashes)? Can you connect the laptop to an external monitor and get an image?

If the answer to these questions is yes you might have knocked the LCD cable loose or damaged the GPU somehow.

If the answer is no you might have damaged the RAM or motherboard in your cleaning efforts. You might try replacing the RAM with some that is known to work. If this doesn't solve the problem I don't know if the laptop is worth fixing (considering it is ~4 years old and repairing it may cost more than it's worth).

computer boots. Lights come on. HDD flashes. CD drive moves about. Haven't tried with the external monitor.

If I knocked the lcd cable loose, how do I put it back?

Urgh. My girlfriend will be devastated. I feel so bad now

EDIT: AHH!! I fixed it! I just took out the RAM, blew it and put it back. (Like the good old Sega Genesis days...) Thank you TabbedOut! *kiss!*
