    Hi everyone!
Lately I've been getting a bit concerned about the temperature of my T9300 CPU. It idles about 55-60C with my air conditioner on, and I've witnessed it get close to boiling point when I'm playing games. It's even cut out twice within this week! It doesn't help that it's a very hot summer in Australia, but that's what has gotten me concerned about this.

If someone else has a T9300, a CPU temp reading would be much appreciated

    God, that's bad.

    My specs:

    Toshiba A300 Satellite 02M00M
4GB RAM (up from the standard 2GB)
ATI Radeon HD 3650 Mobility (I think I got the word combo messed up :p)

20°C room temperature right now. outside temperature is 5°C at most.

my lappy's on a Zalman NC2000. on a side note, that was a typo above, with the cooler running, i don't go past 58°C while gaming, 68°C is with the cooler OFF (tested with Crysis).

The temp would be between 20 and 30 celcius in my room. Sorry about the lack of info, but I don't have a spare thermometer lying around.

    - clean out the system for dust and debris
    - consider applying high-quality thermal compound (such as Arctic Silver 5)
    - put the laptop on an incline
    - ensure that SpeedStep is enabled
    - tweak Vista

The chip is designed to run at a max of 108c. Anything 90c and below is perfectly fine. If you're at 90c and your fan is not running 100% then you have problems. If the fan IS running at 100% and the CPU is still 90c or higher then its obvious the heatsink is clogged with dust.

Id suggest getting it checked. its not normal thats for sure.. and i would NOT suggest using arctic silver.. stupid suggestion imo, void your warranty on a suspicion? brilliant.

My Sony SZ has a T9300 - is there some freeware, non installation softweare that can give me the CPU temp?
(I think I had some installing freware software once...)

GPU-Z works for the GPU only...

Although, overall the laptop doesn't get hot, it can get warm - if I'm to estimate, less than 50° - but I would need to measure it somehow...

I've had my T61p for a little over a year now. It has been a great machine for me.

I recently dusted the fan and heat sink fan area. Added a fresh coat of Zalman Super Thermal grease to the CPU and GPU.

Then I used RMClock to undervolt and under clock the 2.5 GHZ T9300 in it to 1.6GHZ for when I'm running on battery. Works very well. Stable with Orthos. Also use TPFan control.

Here is a screen shot of it under load running Orthos for over an hour. 32 degrees celsius.

I undervolted my CPU by .1625 volts (from 1.1375v to 0.9750), and the temperature is much better now (about a 25 degree decrease on average). GTAIV still pushes it to the 104 degree stage, though. Would I be able to replace a T9300 with a quad of any sort?

^It depends on your chipset. The T9300 is a Socket P processor compatible with the Intel 965 and 45 chipsets. If you have the 965, then you will not be able to use any quad-core processors, as they all have an FSB of 1066MHz, and the 965 chipset can only take up to 800. If you have the 45 chipset, it may be possible, as the 45 chipset can use 1066MHz FSB CPU's. In theory, any Socket P quad-core of 1066 FSB should work, including the Q9000, and QX9300. Of course, it's still not guaranteed, as your motherboard may not have BIOS support.

Are you sure about the 965 Chipset not taking Quad-Cores?

The Vaio SZ has the 965 Chipset and someone here on NBR swapped out a T series (possibly the T9300 - at least I have that one) for a quad core - and it actually worked.

So there should be definitely some quad core CPU that will fit - the BIOS is another question...
    (The SZ accepted it)
