Heres my mod, hope u like it

Heres the Gateway nv78 MXM 3.0 (B) motherboard:

    Heres what I did:

I'll take more pictures next time I take it apart (and hopefully install a Quadro 3000m!)

Temps are very good considering. I'm using kind of a messed up copper shim for the GPU. I can't go without the copper shim because the GPU core is way to flat and the heatsink runs into the MXM slot.

Ran Furmark about 4 minutes and its still at 85c or so. I'm not actually sure if the fans are responding to the GPU temps.

Weird problem, my CPU temps are out of control (t6600). The CPU heatpipe is really long, I realized something is putting pressure on the sink making the contact plate out of whack and putting uneven pressure on the CPU die.

I know what your thinking, how do you deal with it? It can't sit on a table... well actually the battery and stuff is mostly on the right side when the heatsinks are on the left so its really pretty well balanced in your lap. :)

Flip the fan so that the "forceon" logo is at the other side of the laptop, that will give you a bigger intake and better temps hopefully

But the forcecon logo is awesome! :p kidding.

Yeah I was thinking about that, it doesn't actually have a shroud on the other side so I guess I should install one or the air will just blow everywhere.
It is intaking a bit through the other side because there are some holes in the chassis. Granted not much and its chassis air being heated by the RAM, wifi etc.

Still I'm happy with the temps now for what it is. Might do some gaming on it before I mess with it more, if the CPU doesn't overheat, lol.

    :p okay

btw, try to shield the CPU fan intake from the heatsink end. Put a piece of paper so that the hot air from the x7200 hsf is directed away from the CPU fan intake. you can make the shroud from duct tape and paper i guess.

Also do you spot the two square holes in the hsf? cover with tape for better airflow (this is where some of the air escapes and does not make it all the way trough the hsf, thus losing efficiency

you can also try using Coolaboratory Liquid Ultra for the thermal paste (not compatible using aluminum hsf) and "lapping" the hsf contact points so that heat transfer faster :)

    hope this helps!

Nice mod, and it's relatively portable :) Now throw a 7970 or 680M in there :D

Yea, lol. planning to throw a 680m in my MSI gx640... but if this laptop has better cooling... IDK

Is this a Clevo heatsink with copper plate and spreader on top of it? It should be capable of cooling 680M. Also do you pull power for both fans from the main socket?

Yes, its the entire intact heatsink for the x7200, and yeah I wired the fans together. I really need a new CPU fan actually. The mounting holes are different from the other motherboard revision I got in my parts nv78. Might just solder them in place.

I wonder which would sell better? MSI gx640 i7 GTX 680m or Gateway nv78 Core 2 Quad GTX 680m? :p

Depends on the buyer - user-friendliness vs uniqueness :D Not that that a GX640 with 680M is less unique.

Yo, putting a 5870 in a socket p isnt going to do any good. The best you can really put in there without being bottle necked by socket p cpu is like a gtx 260 or 280. It would probably run alot cooler too! no hole cutting yo. But that is really totally awesome niff
